The Cardinals hosted their first home game of the season last Thursday evening,wrangling the Burwell Longhorns 54-14. The Cardinals ran 62 plays for 17 first downs and had two penalties for 10 yards; The Longhorns had 41 plays, 11 first downs, and four penalties for 40 yards. The crowd was on edge as the Longhorns drove down the field, and Binyam Sikes ran in a three-yard score to put Burwell up 6-0 early in the match. The Cards went right to business with Gage Hedstrom hitting Ben Barlow on a 45-yard touchdown pass, and Jaces Rosenkrans brought in the two-point conversion to put the Cards up 8-0. The Cardinal defense held the Longhorns out of the endzone in the second half, but the offense was on fire, with Hedstrom running in the second score of the night and hitting Barlow for the conversion. Barlow got the next score on a 48-yard run into the endzone, and Brabec threw the conversion to Barlow. Hedstrom again hit Barlow on a 46-yard touchdown pass for the final score of the half and a 30-6 lead for the Cardinals. The Cardinal defense kept Burwell at bay in the third while Jace Rosenkrans ran in a 32-yard touchdown and then brought down the conversion to put the Cards up 38-6. Hedstrom finished off the Longhorns in the fourth with a 42-yard touchdown, with Burwell answering with a 5-yard touchdown. Then, on the kickoff, Hedstrom ran in a 75-yard catch for the score, with Keigh Couch running in the conversion. The Cards ran 41 plays for 11 first downs and had four penalties for 40 yards. Burwell ran 62 plays for 17 first downs and had two penalties for 10 yards. Hedstrom had nine completions on 14 attempts for two touchdowns. He had nine carries for 80 yards and two touchdowns; Rosenkrans had six carries for 59 yards and one touchdown; Barlow had one carry for a 48-yard touchdown; Risken Dawson had ten carries for five yards, and Drake Berg had one carry for three yards. Barlow had three receptions for 127 yards and two touchdowns; Dawson had one catch for three yards; Berg had Two catches for 20 yards, and Logan Brabec had three for 30 yards. Hedstrom led the defense with 13 tackles; Drake Berg had nine tackles, Rosenkrans and Dawson each had eight tackles; Ben Pongratz had seven tackles; Myles Hamilton, Bryden Krugman and Keigan Couch each had six tackles; Eli Banks had five tackles; Barlow, Ruger Kraft and Dalton Herley four tackles each; Cameron Vogt had three tackles; Cooper Cole, Seth Popkes, Brabec, Carter Cole and John Mlnarik each had one tackle. The Cards will travel to Boyd County on Friday for a 2:30 p.m. Game at Spencer.
