After a full week's rest, the St. Mary's Cardinals returned Monday, Dec. 29, with the hopes of keeping their record going. Their first opponent, Norfolk Catholic, visited with the hopes to make an impression after the long break as well. Things were looking bleak from the beginning, with the Cardinals backed into a corner 21-10 right from the start. The boys attempted a comeback in the second period, but were quickly dropped once again in the third. With the pressure mounting, the Cards were forced to concede in the final moments of the match. They made one last ditch effort, but were ultimately overwhelmed by their opponent. Lane Bybee took top honors with 16 points and six rebounds; Ben Barlow right there with 16 points, four rebounds and one steal; Logan Brabec with 15 points, six rebounds and three steals; Gage Hedstrom had nine points, one rebound and one steal; Max Berg had two points and one rebound; Eli Banks had one point and 10 rebounds; James Eby had one rebound and two steals; and Drake Berg had one rebound. The Cards made their resurgence right away, pulling ahead by four points to kick the match off. Consistent play from the Cards kept the Braves off them throughout. The boys were always one step ahead of the competition and managed to get back on track after their previous match. Barlow had a big night with 24 points, five rebounds and four steals; Hedstrom had 17 points and four rebounds; Bybee had 10 points, eight rebounds and one steal; Brabec had seven points, five rebounds and five steals; Eby had three points and two rebounds; D. Berg had three points and one rebound; Banks had two points and six rebounds; Xzavier Parks had one rebound and one steal; and M. Berg had one rebound.
