Cardinals Take Osmond Triangular

5 hrs ago (0)

Last week the St. Mary's Cardinals were able to dish some sweet revenge when they faced the Stuart Broncos during the Osmond Triangular. The Cards have already taken the Broncos down this season, but last year they were quite the hurdle for the girls, overpowering the Cards in three of three encounters. In fact, it was the Broncos who brought the girls' play to an end last season.

Last Tuesday's match-up was looking like it may go in the same direction. Both teams were neck-and-neck, but the Cards swiped the early advantage. Determined to keep the Broncos at bay, the Cards upped their play and crushed their opponent in the finale 25-14.

Gracie Williamson led the charge with 12 kills, two ace serves and five digs; Tatum Ickes had six kills and 12 digs; Delaney Drueke had four kills, one ace serve, one block, eight digs and one set assist; Samantha Asche had two kills, one block and three digs; Bethany Leisy had one kill and eight digs; Anna Otte had one kill; and Adyson Peterson had one ace serve, eight digs and 20 set assists.

Another repeat competitor from this season was Osmond, who have been struggling throughout the year. The Cardinals made short work of the Tigers, tanking their record harder, and giving the Cards another win to their name.

Williamson took top honors with nine kills and five digs; Ickes right behind with nine kills and three digs; Drueke had five kills, five digs and three set assists; Otte had five kills; Asche had one kill and one dig; Peterson had two ace serves, eight digs and 23 set assists; and Leisy had two ace serves and six digs.

Two days later, on Thursday, the Cards came face-to-face with GICC, who also overpowered the girls the previous season.

This was a great back-and-forth match-up this time, but the Crusaders wouldn't back down. They were always just one step ahead of the Cards. When the Cards scored, the Crusaders answered back until they thoroughly cleared the board. The Cards were cut short 3-0; 25-21, 25-22 & 25-18.

Ickes made a huge stride with 16 kills, one ace serve, two blocks and four digs; Williamson had 10 kills and 16 digs; Drueke had four kills and 10 digs; Otte had two kills, one block and two digs; Asche had two kills and two digs; Peterson had one kill, two blocks, eight digs and 34 set assists; and Leisy had one ace serve, 18 digs and one set assist.
