Cardinals Off To Good Start Against Riverside

The St. Mary's boys started their basketball season on Friday, Dec. 3 with a 70-43 win over The Riverside Chargers.

The game started out slow for the Cards but once they got their first game jitters out of the way they played well holding the Chargers to seven points in the second quarter.

The Cards scored 36 points in the second half compared to the Chargers 26 for a solid win.

Blake Benson and Adam Everitt shared top honors on the night each scoring 19 points for the Cards. Benson shot six of 14 on the three pointers for 43 percent and had one rebound and two steals; Adam Everitt shot eight of 12 in the two point range for 67 percent and three of six at the free throw line for 50 percent; Adam had six rebounds and two steals; Aidan Hedstrom 13 points, four rebounds and two rebounds; Isaac Everitt nine points, seven rebounds and one steal; Charles Barlow five points and three rebounds; Tate Thompson three points, two rebounds and three steals; and Carson Dannenbring two points.

On Saturday, Dec. 4 the Cards traveled to Fremont to take on the Archbishop Bergan Knights. The game showed that the Cards can play up and came with in five of the Knights.

The Knights opened up and outscored the Cards by five in the first quarter but the Cards found their feet and upped the Knights by three in the second to trail 34-31 at the half. The Knights only scored two more points than the Cards in the second half for their five point win.

Hedstrom led the Cards with 23 points, and shot seven of 13 in the two point range for 54 percent and three of three from the free throw line. Hedstrom had 11 rebounds; Isaac Everitt had 20 points, shooting five of seven for 71 percent on his three pointers and two of five in two pointers, Isaac had four rebounds and four steals; Adam Everitt 13 points and six rebounds; Benson four points, two rebounds and two steals; Barlow four points and four rebounds.
