The St. Mary's Cardinals ran into a buzz saw last week in their travels to 7-0 Ainsworth on Friday evening. The Cardinals held the Carter Nelson driven team to six points in the first quarter before the Cardinals fell apart in the second with Ainsworth scoring 44 unanswered points and let a running clock loose in the second half. The Cardinals offensive troubles seemed to be giving Gage Hedstrom enough time in the back field to execute any plays with the Bull Dogs having 11 sacks for a loss of 60 yards. The Cardinals ran 54 plays for 11 first downs and had three penalties for 15 yards. Ainsworth ran 45 plays for 25 first downs with nine penalties for 63 yards. The Cardinal offense was held to 179 yards with Ainsworth racking up 563 total yards on the night. Leading the defense for the Cardinals was Hedstrom with 14 tackles, Carson Dannenbring eight tackles, Drake Berg seven tackles, Dalton Herley and Ben Barlow six tackles each, Eli Banks five tackles, Logan Brabec, Ben Pongratz and Sam Barlow two tackles each.
