Betty R. Pierce, age 82, of O'Neill, passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at the Golden LivingCenter in O'Neill.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in O'Neill with Rev. Craig Collins officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Shaun Kayl, Patricia Pierce, Larry Stancil, Marilyn Booth, Mary Dell Stancil-Howell, Karen Brodbeck and Cheryl Pierce.
Services are under the direction of Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.
Betty was born on Sept. 29, 1930, in Andrews, NC, to Robert and Gussie (Lovin) Brown. She graduated from high school and lived in Andrews until she went to college at Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, NC, and Weber College in Babson Park, FL.
She married Harold G. Pierce at the First Methodist Church in Houston, Texas on May 15, 1954. They lived in Texas, Spain, Turkey, California, Florida, Ohio and Michigan while Hal was in the Air Force.
After retiring they moved to Lubbock, Texas and then to Lexington, VA, before moving to O'Neill in 1981. Betty sold real estate while living in Virginia and continued in O'Neill for Fleming Realty.
Hal passed away on Oct. 26, 2007.
Betty was interested in many hobbies: sewing, cooking, gardening, fishing and deer hunting.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Nancy Kayl and husband, Pat of Spencer; one grandson, Shaun Kayl of Sioux Falls, SD; one sister-in-law, Pat Pierce of South Beloit, IL; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; two brothers; four sisters and one brother-in-law.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or any Nebraska breast cancer organizations.
