This week, many area schools will be entering into winter season sports, including basketball and wrestling. The O'Neill High School and St. Mary's varsity basketball teams will soon kick off their 2025-26 basketball season. On Thursday, Dec. 4, the O'Neill Eagles will travel to Valentine, with the girls taking the court at 6 p.m. and the boys taking over at 7:30 p.m. The St. Mary's Cardinals will be traveling to Crofton to take on the Warriors. Saturday, Dec. 6, wrestling will begin at O'Neill High School with the O'Neill Invite Wrestling Invitational against multiple schools at 9:30 a.m. The Summerland Bobcats will start their season on Thursday, Dec. 4, traveling to Neligh. The Stuart Broncos will host the Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars. CWC will host its season opener against Randolph, and West Holt will start its season on Friday, Dec. 6, traveling to Creighton.
