On Thursday April 6, the O'Neill Lady Eagles Junior High Track team traveled to Atkinson to participate in the West Holt Invitational at the Roger Brink Track and Field complex. The lady Eagles competed against several area teams. While no team points were kept, the Eagles came away with many medals. Seventh grader Mady Heiss came away with the lone gold of the meet. Heiss ran 13.68 in the 100M dash to secure 1st. Heiss was also part of the 4x100M relay team that took 2nd place. Heiss, Tenzlie Sorensen, Grace Drueke and Hailey Fick ran the relay in 55.62 seconds to claim silver. Other top performances on the track include Fick's 3rd place finish in the 200M hurdles, finishing in 34.29 seconds. The Eagles also had a couple top finishes in field events. Heiss jumped to 2nd place in the triple jump with a jump of 28' 3 ½”, while teammate Drueke finished in 3rd place in the pole vault with a vault of 6'. The Eagles will travel to Boone Central to compete this week.
