Agnes "Irene" Brotsky, 85, of O'Neill, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022 at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.

Visitation will be held from 10 - 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2022 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2022 at the mortuary in O'Neill. Fr. Joseph Sund will officiate. 

Burial will be in the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Agnes Irene was born on April 20, 1936 in Gregory, SD. Her mother Esther passed away shortly after she was born and she was raised by her father Jake Reutter, her grandmother Esther Reutter and her brother Jack. 

Irene was raised on a farm and went to school in Gregory, SD.  At 14, her father sent her to O’Neill to attend high school at St. Mary’s Academy. She was a boarder and gained some lifetime friendships. She graduated from St. Mary’s in 1954.

Irene married Leo Brotsky on June 14, 1954 and they welcomed six children together Russell, Don, Marie, Maggie, Tom and Jay. Leo and Irene later divorced.

Irene moved to O’Neill and worked at several different businesses over the years. She had also played guitar with several bands as well. Playing guitar was something she really enjoyed as one of her sons was usually the drummer.

Irene retired at 80 and loved spending time with her kids and grandkids. She traveled to Arizona, Texas, Wyoming, Kansas and Minnesota to attend grandkids events and to spend time with them.

Irene is survived by four of her children Russell (Roxie) Brotsky of Wichita, KS, Marie (Greg) Gaspers of Cody, WY, Maggie (Terry) Krugman of O’Neill and Tom (Zoe) Brotsky of Rio Verde, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jake and Esther Reutter, her sons Jay Brotsky in 2018 and Don Brotsky in 2022, her brother Jack Reutter and stepmother Lillian Reutter.
