I have been considering Nebraska LB 1001 and I feel it is an appropriate measure. The issue here is not about the intelligence or learning ability of the children address in this bill, but rather their entitlement to educational benefits. Some call these children "undocumented" but the face is, they are ILLEGAL ALIENS. They are not entitled to benefits paid for by the tax dollars of American citizens. I feel that illegal aliens need to be deported and it is the responsibility of their country of citizenship to provide education for the children. Our country is already under a tremendous load trying to provide for our citizens and can not (and should not) afford to provide for those who are here illegally. I understand that these are children who did not choose to be here, but their family has decided to commit a crime and enter our country illegally rather than follow the established system to enter legally. According to current law, LEGAL aliens are entitled to educational benefits so provisions have already been made for children here under legal status. I feel it is far past time to stop treating our immigration laws so lightly and realize they are in place for a reason... to protect our people and our society. I also feel that providing assistance to anyone in this country illegally is also an illegal act and allowing these children to attend our schools falls into that category. The bottom line is, all of our public benefits are paid for by people in this country legally and are intended for the benefit of only those people.
