Susan Rae Hurley, 73, of O'Neill, died Sunday, March 22, 2026 at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a 7 p.m. wake service. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill. Fr. Bernard Starman will officiate. Burial will be in the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Schools in O'Neill in Susan's name. Susan was born in Watseka, IL on Sept. 29, 1952, to Glenn and Ardis (Erickson) Iverson. She attended high school in Milbank, SD, graduating with the Class of 1970. Following high school, Sue attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD, where she earned degrees in elementary education and special education. Sue met the love of her life, Jack Hurley, while attending high school in Milbank. The couple was united in marriage on Dec. 23, 1973, in Milbank, SD. They began their life together in Valentine, where Sue taught at the Valentine Elementary School. To this union, two children were born, Nicole and John. In 1992, Sue and Jack made their home in O'Neill, where she continued her teaching career at St. Mary's Grade School until retiring in 2018. Sue had a true passion for teaching and cared deeply for every child she worked with. She made a lasting impact on countless students and took great joy in helping them learn and grow. Outside of the classroom, Sue found happiness in tending to her yard and garden, where her love of flowers was evident. She also enjoyed walking, crafting and cooking. Above all, Sue cherished time spent with her family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever. Sue is survived by her husband of 53 years Jack Hurley of O'Neill; her children Nicole (Jeremy) Tamisiea of Sioux Falls, SD, and John Hurley of Montgomery, Texas; five grandchildren Christopher, Andrew, Allison, Jack and Cooper; one sister Sharon Martinez of Colorado Springs, CO; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Ardis Iverson.
