Last week was a smashing success for the lady Cardinals. Tuesday, Sept. 17 they played Santee and Niobrara/Verdigre and downed both teams in an easy wash. The girls first played Santee on their own turf and quickly shut them down. Set one the Cardinals came out with a fire, holding the Santee Warriors to just seven while putting up 25 themselves. In the second, the Warriors were again outplayed, falling to the wayside 25-12. Annabelle Barlow led the Cardinals with seven kills and three set assists; Gracie Williamson had four kills, one ace serve and two digs; Pyper Ickes four kills, one dig and two set assists; Anna Otte three kills, four ace serves and three digs; Samantha Asche three kills; Jaiya Johnson one kill; Adyson Peterson six ace serves, two digs and 12 set assists; and Peyton Thompson one ace serve and two digs. Later in the day the Cards faced off against Niobrara/Verdigre in a neutral setting. The opener was a rocky start for the Cougars, only managing 14 points before the Cards put up 25. The Cardinals weren't messing around, as in set two they dug the Cougar's grave further, putting them down 25-11. This was a clean wash for the Cardinals, going 2-0 in both matches. Barlow again led the girls with her eight kills, three digs and two set assists; Williamson had seven kills, one ace serve, one block and six digs; Otte four kills, three digs and two set assists; Ickes three kills, four ace serves, 15 digs and three set assists; Asche three kills and one dig; and Peterson two kills, six digs and 20 set assists.
