Fire Danger High As Dry Conditions Persist Going Into Harvest Season

Sep 25, 2024 (0)

THE O'NEILL VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT was dispatched to a bale fire on Monday, Sept. 23, just west of the tomato plant. Please be aware that smoke from the smoldering bales will be in the area for the next few days. Due to dry conditions and harvest equipment soon to be in operation, fire dangers are higher than usual. Burning will be allowed once we have received adequate moisture. Farmers, ranchers, and larger companies with equipment such as discs and rigs that can contain and haul water are asked to keep equipment ready if the equipment is needed.
