The St. Mary's Lady Cards came through playing a tough match last Friday evening downing Summner- Eddyville-Miller 59-42 for the D1-5 District Final. The Lady Cardinals will advance to the first round of the Nebraska State Basketball Tourney this week in Lincoln where they will face 20-3 McCool Junction on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 10:45 at Pinnacle Arena. The district final was a tough go for the first half. The Cardinal girls got off to a 14-6 lead with the Cards adapting to the Mustangs defense and height. Alissa Brabec was a huge contributor bringing 26 points to the Cardinal game shooting over 50 percent in three pointers make seven of 13. The game was a back and forth battle with the Cards as the Mustangs trailed by nine most of the game. The Cards led 26-23 at the half. The girls needing to avenge their volleyball loss in the fall kept the heat on the Mustangs in third and fourth to keep them at bay. The fourth saw the Mustangs trying to foul the Cards for more ball time but left them with a 17 point loss. Mya Hedstrom had 16 points, seven rebounds and one steal; Lorissa Reiman 13 points, 11 rebounds and five steals; Gracie Williamson three points and three rebounds; and Samantha Asche one point.
