The O'Neill boys had an exciting holiday tournament season, defeating the North Central Knights 66-38 on Thursday, Dec. 28, at the O'Neill High School Gym, and then on Friday, Dec. 29, the Eagles edged out the class B Beatrice Orangemen, winning by one point, 57-56. The Eagles jumped off to an early start against the North Central Knights, racking up 24 while holding their opponent to 11. The momentum picked up in the second, with the Knights bringing their offense online and being only outscored by three 14-11 in the second stanza. The Knights were still short at the half, 38-18. The first-quarter scoring by the Knights crippled their chance at a win. The Knights put up 20 points in the second half, with the Eagles staying strong with 28 for the second half. Turner Heiss had a solid game, shooting 62 percent for 19 points and four rebounds; Drew Morrow had 15 points on the day, shooting 36 percent and five rebounds and two steals; Trevor Alder had 10 points, shooting 56 percent from the field. Alder had five rebounds and two steals; Colton Osborne had seven points and five rebounds; Rydner Pokorny had five points, three rebounds, and three steals; Brady Eichelberger had three points; and Porter Mathews had two points, two rebounds, and one steal, and Grant Dusatko had two points and one steal on the game.. Beatrice came out of the locker room determined to put up 18 while the Eagles struggled with nine. Beatrice now lead at the end of the third quarter by one point 45-44. he fourth was tight, with each team matching the other. The Orangmen made the mistake of fouling Morrow, whose skill at the line gave the Eagles their victory, shooting 50 percent from the line. orrow led the Eagles with 31 points, shooting 43 percent from the field, and he had three rebounds and five steals; Heiss had 16 points, five rebounds, and two steals; Pokorny had eight points, one rebound, and one steal, and Osborne had two points and two rebounds.
