OHS Girls Get First Win Of Season

Last week the O'Neill Eagle Girls had their hands full when they faced three opponents over three days. The first of the matches had been postponed to Dec. 5, and that was the match against the Battle Creek

The Braves came out hot, holding  the Eagles to just eight points while putting up 16 in the start. Quarter two did no favors for the Eagles either, falling further by seven points. 

This would be a tough turnaround for the Eagles, and third quarter didn't too much in helping, as they lost by just one point. The final quarter yet again went to Battle Creek, giving them a simple 4-0 wash to win the game 49-33.

Lauryn Dusatko led with 10 points, shooting one of four three-pointers for 25 percent and three of seven two-pointers for 43 percent. Dusatko also had nine rebounds and one steal. Olivia Young had eight points and three rebounds; Presley Heiss and Ashley Sidak both five points and one rebound; Hannah Hilker three points and two rebounds; Autumn Hilker two points, two rebounds and two steals; and Rylee Selby and Keeley Chavez both one rebound.

Just two days later, the Eagles would get the break they needed when they hosted the Elkhorn Valley Falcons and took them down 50-45.

The Falcons kicked the game off with a three-point lead over the Eagles. This would be short-lived however, as quarter two would give the Eagles a tremendous advantage over their opponent. The Eagles put up 17 points and held the Falcons to just two, putting them ahead by 12 points going into half.

Now the Falcons were determined to take the game back. They did manage to take quarters three and four, but their slip-up from earlier had given the Eagles a permanent advantage in this match. 

Sidak took charge with 14 points, shooting four of five three-pointers for eighty percent and one of two two-pointers for fifty percent. Sidak also had six rebounds and two steals. H. Hilker had 13 points, one rebound and one steal; Heiss 11 points, six rebounds and two steals; Dusatko seven points, 13 rebounds and one steal; A. Hilker three points and two rebounds; Young two points, five rebounds and two steals.

The Eagles wrapped up last week's play when they visited Hartington on Friday, Dec. 8 where they faced the Cedar Catholic Trojans. Unfortunately for the Eagles, this match ended their short-lived taste of victory.

The first half of the game saw an early lead from the Trojans, putting up 11 points in the first two quarters, while the Eagles put up nine in the quarters. 

In quarter three the Eagles made a push to turn the game in their favor. It proved to be successful, as the girls managed to win 14-6 to put them in the lead. The Trojans wouldn't give up though. Quarter four the Trojans stole the game from under the Eagles feet with an eight-point advantage, winning the quarter and the game.

H. Hilker scored highest with 12 points, shooting two of five three-pointers for 40 percent and one of ten two-pointers for 10 percent. H. Hilker also had one steal; Dusatko had nine points and six rebounds;  A. Hilker nine ponts, five rebounds and two steals; Young six points, one rebound and one steal; Heiss four points, seven rebounds and two steals; and Sidak three points, three rebounds and one steal.
