The O'Neill boys football team hosted the West Holt Huskies last week on Friday, Sept. 8. The Eagles edged out their competition 14-6. The Eagles drew first blood with 8:55 in the first quarter. O'Neill took a 7-0 lead. The Huskies got on the board with 5:07 on the clock but had trouble getting the conversion and the extra point. The second and third quarters were defensive battle grinding the game to a halt, with both teams putting up 0 points. The final quarter the Eagles managed two get into the end zone and get the win.. The Eagles ran 54 yards for 11 first downs and had 10 penalties for 65 yards. The Huskies ran 57 yards for 11 first downs and had nine penalties for 44 yards. Drew Morrow had eight carries for 46 yards and one touchdown; Porter Mathews eight carries for 22 yards; Brady Eichelberger seven carries for yards; and Grady Welke five carries for 24 yards and one touchdown. Leading the defense was Pryor Mathews with nine tackles; Grady Welke eight tackles; Porter Mathews six tackles; Brady Eichelberger five tackles; Tucker Shabram and Colton Osborne four tackles; Reese Grosch and Noah Manchester three tackles; Ryder Pokorny, Drew Morrow, Turner Heiss, Easton Cook and Dominic Hamilton all one tackle each.
