The St. Mary's Cardinals best win streak last season was 11 wins, but they are slowly but surely creeping up to that this year. They have yet to be beaten once, and last week was no exception. In their first match against Chambers/Wheeler Central they had an easy victory 3-0. Quarter one was already enough to tell the Renegades were no match for the Cardinals, beating them 25-8. The second quarter didn't fair much better for the Renegades, with the Cards holding them to only 10 points. The final quarter was a brutal beatdown from the Cards, dominating by 25-4. Mia Hedstrom crushed it with 15 kills, one ace serve and six digs; Lorissa Reiman nine kills, one ace serve and four digs; Pyper Ickes six kills, one ace serve, one block and three digs; Gracie Williamson five kills; Joslyn Eby three kills, one dig and one set assist; Alissa Brabec one kill; three ace serves, three digs and 30 set assists; Annabelle Barlow six digs; Emma Otte two ace serves and five digs; and Delaney Wohlert one ace serve. Two days later on Sept. 7 the Cardinals battled the Cougars when they traveled to Burke. This game was a lot closer than the last, but the Cardinals still got a clean 3-0 sweep; 25-20,25-16 & 25-19. Right out the gate the Cardinals and Cougars showed they both had capable players. Leading to a very close first quarter, 25-20 for the Cards. Second quarter the Cards pushed ahead further by an additional nine points. Now 14 points behind, the Cougars would have to pull off a miracle to overtake their opponent. 25-19 was the final quarter's score, putting the Cards only further ahead. Reiman now leads with 15 kills, four blocks and 11 digs; Hedstrom nine kills, two blocks, 15 digs and one set assist; Williamson four kills and two digs; Brabec three kills, one ace serve, six digs and 28 set assists; Ickes three kills, one block, 12 digs and one assist; Eby one kill, two blocks, two digs and two set assists; Barlow one ace serve and eight digs; and Otte 11 digs. The Cards will face off against the Santee Warriors Tuesday, Sept. 12.
