On Saturday April 22, 2023 the Boyd County Sheriff's Office was contacted about a possible forced abduction originating from Wager, South Dakota. The suspect and victim had been traveling southbound on Highway 281 when the vehicle they were driving ran out of fuel around mile marker 223 about a mile and a half into the State of Nebraska. With the assistance of Holt County Sheriff's Office, Gregory County Sheriff's Office and the Nebraska State Patrol. Highway 281 was temporarily shut down. The victim, a 23 year-old South Dakota woman, was recovered safely. The suspect, a 25 year-old South Dakota man, was arrested for false imprisonment in the first degree (NRS §28-314) without further incident. Boyd County Sheriff's Office would like to extend our gratitude to the Holt County Sheriff's Office, Gregory County Sheriff's Office and the Nebraska State Patrol for your swift response to a deputy in need of assistance.
