With summer-like temperatures in the mid 80's, the O'Neill Girls Track and Field team competed in their own Invitational Track Meet on Thursday, April 13th. Many girls had personal bests and competed very well finishing in fourth place as a team.

Junior Presley Heiss continues her local dominance in the short sprints winning both the 100 and 200 dashes. Her time of 12.90 in the 100 prelims is a new personal best for her. Her finals time of 26.86 in the 200 finals also broke her personal best in that event. Presley was part of the 4 x 100 team that placed 2nd running an amazing fourth leg to take the team from 4th to 2nd place with a time of 52.94.

The Dickau sisters continue to do well in the distance events. Freshman, Taya, placed 3rd in the 1600 with a time of 6:11.43 and junior, Ashley, finished right behind in 4th place with a time of 6:12.79. They were also a part of the 3200 relay team that placed 4th with a time of 10:55.50. Joining them in the relay were junior Autumn Hilker and freshman Mollie Corkle Mollie also had a great day in the 800 placing 6th with a new personal best time of 2:36.01.

Zork Koehler placed 5th in the 100 hurdles and was also part of the 400 relay team with Heiss, Olivia Young and Serena Chavez. Young also placed 5th in the triple jump with a leap of 31-04.

Brooklyn Cahoy rounded out the medal winners placing 3rd in the pole vault with a jump of 8-2.

"I was not sure how we would react to such an extreme change in the weather, but our girls did a great job of staying out of the sun and staying hydrated. I thought we competed well in many events with so many girls getting their personal bests today. Presley has really been working hard in practice and it shows in her results. We look forward to running against some of the best teams in the state next week at the Dave Gee Invitational at Grand Island Northwest High School."

The O'Neill Girls Track and Field team traveled to Broken Bow on Thursday, April 6th to compete in the always competitive Broken Bow Invitational. Some of the best teams in Class B and C were there to compete.

Junior Presley Heiss continued to impress in the sprints clocking her best times of the year in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Her time of 12.99 in the prelims equals her best of the year and her 27.40 in the 200 is a season best. She competed against some of the best sprinters in the State and held her own, finishing 3rd in the 100 and 6th in the 200.

The 3200 Relay team of Taya Dickau, Mollie Corkle, Ashley Dickau and Autumn Hilker ran their season best time of 11:01.43 to finish in 3rd place. Taya also had a personal best time of 6:05.94 in the 1600 to place 7th. Ashley also had a good day in the 3200 run by placing 5th with a time of 13:34.47.

"We go to this meet to compete against some of the best teams in the State so we can improve, and we did just that. We had several personal bests in this meet." Said Coach Peterson.
