Atkinson — Brett Joel Ohde, 34, of Atkinson died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022 in O'Neill.

Visitation was held Friday, Dec. 30, 2022 at Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson.

Memorial funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 30, 2022 at the funeral home in Atkinson. Pastor Mike Durre officiated.

Honoraray pallbearers were all of Brett's military family and friends.

Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetry in Atkinson with military honors at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Brett was born on Feb. 26th, 1988 in Scottsbluff. Brett was adopted by Roger Ohde and Barbara Ohde on March 14th, 1988 and was welcomed into his loving home in Atkinson. Brett spent the majority of his life in Atkinson or in the Holt County area. 

Brett's love of trucking started from a young age as he collected a whole fleet of toy trucks. Brett also spent many days and weeks in the summer on the road with his dad. 

He enjoyed working in the hay field and helping Grandpa on the ranch.

Brett attended St. Joseph's Catholic School throughout junior high and graduated from West Holt High School in 2006. Throughout his high school years, he enjoyed participating in football, wrestling, track, baseball and FFA. He also developed a passion for motocross, water sports and snowmobiling. 

Brett enlisted in the Nebraska Army National Guard in the spring of 2006 and proudly served for six years, obtaining the rank of Sergeant. Brett completed one overseas tour in Afghanistan from 2008-2009 as part of a security force for the Nebraska National Guard Agricultural Development Team. He was honorably discharged in 2012.

Brett welcomed a daughter Willow Allory into the world on Dec. 2nd, 2011.

Brett enjoyed working on the farm and spent several years working for local farmers. Brett's career as a truck driver started in 2013 and remained his passion until his passing. He had a love of over the road trucking, putting on many miles alongside his dad.

Brett's struggle with PTSD and mental illness ended on Dec. 24th, 2022 when he was greeted at heaven's gates by his grandparents Harold and Evelyn Ohde and Clarence and Mary Grof.

Brett is survived by his parents Roger Ohde of Atkinson and Barb Ohde (Dan Jansen) of Atkinson; daughter Willow Allory of Valenine; and two sisters Riley (Jake) Runyan and their children Kensington and Lexyn of Atkinson, and Ashton (Derek Westring) Ohde and their children Josie and Layla of Columbus.
