Cardinals Soar Over Cougars

In Friday's league game, the St. Mary's Cardinals smashed the host Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars, by a score of 54-0.

The Cardinals scored 30 points in the first quarter. The first scores came when Gage Hedstrom threw a 30 yard pass to Issac Everitt, but the two-point conversion was no good. The second score had Hedstrom again passing a 30 yard pass to Everitt, followed by a run in by Everitt for the two-point conversion. Next Hedstrom had a one yard run in for a touchdown and Dalton Alder ran the two-point conversion in. The final score of the quarter came with another 10 yard pass from Hedstrom to Everitt, followed by Hedstrom running in the two-point conversion.

The second quarter saw an 11 yard pass from Hedstrom to Carson Dannenbring, but the two-point conversion was no good. The second score of the quarter came with a 40 yard run by Alder, but they couldn't pull off the two-point conversion. The final score of the half was made with a 44 yard pass from Hedstrom to Jace Rosenkrans, but again the two-point conversion was no good, leaving the score at half-time 48-0.

The Cougars managed to hold the Cardinals scoreless in the third quarter and only allowed one score in the final quarter when Hedstrom threw 20 yards to Rosenkrans, but the extra point was no good.

Leading the Cardinals offense were Hedstrom who carried the ball six times for 14 yards and passed 10 times for 247 yards; Everitt 13 carries for 73 yards; Alder seven carries for 61 yards; Risken Dawson two carries for 24 yards; and Rosenkrans one carry for one yard.

The Cards defense was led by Hedstrom with 19 tackles; Everitt 16 tackles; Jack Gydesen 12 tackles; Rosenkrans and Wyatt Scofield, each with nine tackles; Dawson with eight tackles; Alder seven tackles; and Kyle Pribil and Joseph Wiese, each with five tackles.

The Cardinals (4-1) will now prepare for their game against Chambers/Wheeler Central. The Renegades come into the D2 District 4 game with a 0-5 record. In their last game, Chambers/Wheeler Central was ripped by Ainsworth, 63-14, in a league game.
