3 Departments Respond To Fire

Aug 24, 2022 (0)

Two fires - The O'Neill Fire Department was called to two fires on Monday, Aug. 22 at the same time.

The O'Neill Fire Department was called out to two separate fires at the same time on Monday, Aug. 22.

The first call came out around 6:15 for a fire north of Inman on Settlers Road. A piece of haying equipment started the fire which grew rapidly and got into a shelter belt.

The O'Neill Fire Department rolled trucks to that fire when a few minutes later a report of a ditch fire at the TP&L storage facility on Pioneer Road east of O'Neill was reported.

O'Neill Fire Chief Roger Miller called for mutual aid from the Ewing and Page Fire Departments.

The fire near the TP&L was quickly extinguished with two trucks and then those crews were sent on to the fire north of Inman.

The departments were on scene until about 9 p.m. when they returned to their respective towns.

O'Neill had nine trucks with 23 fire fighters on the scene with equipment and personnel from Page and Ewing. The departments used approximately 25,000 gallons of water on the 10-12 acre fire.

The fire at TP&L was probably started by a discarded cigarette.
