DeWayne, born and raised  in the Green Valley of Nebraska, passed away Friday, Aug. 19th at his daughter Jeanette Tasler's home in Atkinson. The same home he helped build with and for his parents between the blizzard years of 1947-1950.

Ninety-two years young, Dewayne was a quiet man with a loving tender heart. A man of few words, who was also stubborn. A dad who was working sun-up to sun-down to provide. A husband with deep love and long suffering. A friend you could count on to help. A master of all trades.

Born May 1, 1930 in Stuart to William and Amy Tasler, he grew up running barefoot through the Sandhills during the Dust Bowl years with his two sisters. After graduating from Atkinson High School in 1948, he helped his dad build homes around Atkinson for a time, had a license to fly a plane and became a licensed electrician.

DeWayne married Donna Herrington on June 8, 1950. They had five children in 10 years Wayne Thomas, Jeanette Marie, Jerry Leland, Debra Jean and Anthony DeWayne. They lived “out home,” the same house DeWayne was raised in, and were dairy farmers.

He then began a 26-year second career at Christensen Farms, retiring at 85.

Most recently, DeWayne was known around town for his garden, his brewing of “wine” and in his earlier retirement years an avid golfer.

DeWayne and Donna will be laid to rest together at Woodland Cemetery.

DeWayne is survived by his five children and 11 grandchildren Wayne of Casper, WY and children Robbie and Ryan, Jeanette of Atkinson, Jerry (Elaine) of Atkinson and childrenJacob and Jordan, Debra (Kevin)  and children Tami, Bryan, Kelly and Ashley and Tony (Tammy) of Forest Grove, OR and children Mitch, Andrew and McKenzie; two siblings Darlene (Don, deceased) Schaaf and Evadene (Jim, deceased) Boettcher; one sister-in-law Lotus (Roy, deceased) Herrington; and one brother-in-law Ray (Wanda) Herrington.

He was preceded in death by his wife Donna, parents William and Amy Tasler, parent-in-laws Edgar and Lelia and two brothers-in-law Don Schaff and Jim Boettcher.
