Eagle Track Season Winds Down With Conference Action

The O'Neill Eagles boys track team competed in two meets this week. The Mid-States Conference Track Meet was postponed from Saturday, April 30th, and moved to Tuesday May 2nd. The Eagles finished in 6th place.

The Eagles were able to bring back some hardware. Joseph Engelbart placed 4th in the shot put with a throw of 47' 0.75”. Sean Coventry placed 4th in the high jump with an effort of 5' 7”. In the pole vault Kyler Dean placed 2nd with 11' 6” and William Grosch 6th with 10' 6”. Then Tyler Diediker marked a personal best in long jump with 20' 10.5” that placed him 4th. 

In the running events Keaton Wattier brought home two medals.  Keaton placed 2nd in the 110 high hurdles, and 6th in the 300 intermediate hurdles with personal best of 41.1. Landon Classen placed 6th in the open 800 meter run with a time of 2:06.33, a personal best in the open. Freshman Trevor Alder placed 6th with running a time of 5:01.4 in the mile. This is Trevor's fastest time.

The relays gained points for the team in the conference meet.  The 4 x 100 placed 4th. Members were Fabian Acevedo, Sean Coventry, Keaton Wattier, and Michael McCallister. The 4 x 800 also placed 4th. Members were Landon Classen, Brady Sidak, Drew Morrow, and Brady Thompson.

The Eagles then traveled to Norfolk Catholic Thursday, May 5th. The team placed 5th out of eight teams scoring 54 points.

In the field events Sean Coventry brought home a gold medal in the high jump with 5' 10”. Brady Sidak placed 6th in the high jump. Kyler Dean placed 4th in the pole vault with 12'. Joseph Engelbart was 3rd in the shot put.

Running the hurdles, Keaton Wattier and Drew Morrow placed in the 110 high hurdles, 1st and 3rd respectively.  Morrow came back in the 300 intermediate hurdles and placed 4th. 

In the distance events Landon Classen placed 4th in the 800, and freshman Trevor Alder, placed 4th in the 1600 meter run.

The 4 x 800 consisting of Elijah Kopecky, Gus Laible, Carter Hickey, and Easton Kopecky placed 5th. The 4 x 100 meter relay with Fabian Acevedo, Sean Coventry, Keaton Wattier, and Michael McCallister placed 4th.

On Tuesday, May 10th, the Eagles competed in the B-4 districts held at Pawnee Park in Columbus with numerous schools from the Mid-States competing in it along with teams like Arlington, South Sioux City, and Blair, for a chance to earn the right to compete in the NSAA State Track & Field Championships, held at Burke Stadium, May 18th & 19th. Field events started at 11 a.m. and running events at 2 p.m. in Columbus. Look for resulted in next week's paper.
