The regular board meeting of the O’Neill Public School Board of Education was called to order by President Gene Chohon at 7:30 pm, on January 10, 2022 at the Administrative Offices at 410 East Benton, O’Neill, Nebraska.

A motion to approve the meeting agenda, passed with a motion made by Amy Rowse and seconded by Coby Welke.

A motion to approve the minutes of the December 13, 2021 regular meeting, passed with a motion made by Coby Welke and seconded by Amy Rowse.

• Reception of Visitors

Visitors were welcomed and informed that this meeting was in compliance with the Nebraska Open Meetings Act which is posted on the south wall of the board room.

Communications received, either written or oral, were reviewed.  

• Presentation of Diplomas to Early Graduates

Jr-Sr High School Principal, Mr. Will Wragge, had the honor of presenting MaKenzie DeSive, Keara Summers, Brianna Snyder, and Hailey Turpin, who have successfully completed all of the necessary graduation requirements, with their High School Diplomas.

• Negotiations

The negotiations team rescheduled the meeting from last Wednesday and will now plan to meet on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. No action taken.

• Policy #204.12 - Public Comment in Board Meetings

A motion to approve Policy #204.12 Public Comment in Board Meetings as amended, passed with a motion made by Amy Rowse and seconded by Aaron Troester.

• New Business

President, Gene Chohon, adjourned the meeting sine die for the election of officers at 8:07 pm. The meeting was called back to order by Superintendent Amy Shane at 8:08 pm. Board members present were Becker, Chohon, Hammerlun, Rowse, Troester, and Welke.

• Election of Officers

Superintendent Amy Shane called for nominations for President. Amy Rowse nominated Gene Chohon.  With no other nominations forthcoming, nominations ceased. Superintendent Shane declared Gene Chohon as board president.

President Gene Chohon called for nominations for Vice President. Bart Becker nominated Amy Jo Rowse.  With no other nominations forthcoming, nominations ceased. President Gene Chohon declared Amy Jo Rowse as Vice President.

President Gene Chohon called for nominations for Vice President-Elect.  Mike Hammerlun nominated Coby Welke. With no other nominations forthcoming, nominations ceased. President Gene Chohon declared Coby Welke as Vice President-Elect.

A motion to appoint Kathy Marvin as board secretary and Carol Hammerlun as board treasurer, passed with a motion made by Amy Rowse and seconded by Bart Becker.
